Khuangsi Waterfalls, Pak Ou Cave, Luang Prabang
A short program to explore Luang Prabang the UNESSCO heritage town of Laos with laidback lifestyle and tranquil scenes as the best place to nourish the spirit. The old town is pretty small and can be visited by pleasant walking. Scattering around the town are Buddhist temples and pagodas, the Royal Palaces and colonial architecture buildings. From Luang Prabang, travel less than one hour to spot the stunning Khuang Si Waterfalls and Pak Ou holy Caves. Every in the morning, happens the Alms Giving ceremony when the local devout dedicate food to monks in saffron robes walking by. Colorful Luang Prabang night market is an authentic rural market with local handicrafts, lanterns and Laos souvenirs.
Welcome to Luang Prabang, the UNESSCO Heritage town with the fusion of traditional Laos and French colonial cultures and gastronomy. With an alluring location at 2 rivers’ conjunction and numerable temples, Luang Prabang is a unique town for the laidback.
Upon your arrival at Luang Prabang Airport, you will be greeted by your local tour guide and have private transfer to hotel in Luang Prabang for check-in.
Late in the morning, you will visit a local house and attend the blessing Baci Ceremony. This ritual is essential and applicable to many life events of local people like birth, marriage, wedding, housewarming, Laos New Year or the beginning of some things. When the ceremony is going to end, your wrist will be tied with white cotton string to bring the luck.
After breakfast at hotel, you will meet your guide and local tuk tuk driver in Luang Prabang to explore this charming city. First stop of the day is Wat Mai which means “New Temple”. Wat Mai is one of the richly decorated architectures in Luang Prabang with the adorn of red and black lacquer and gold leaf. In a short distance, you will find the Royal Palace in Luang Prabang built in 1904 as home of King Sisavang Vong and royal family during colonial era. After Laos communist party took over the power, they turned the palace into National Museum where all the precious relics, the royal images and diplomatic gifts from other countries are still on display. Next, walk to Wat Xieng Thong, a complex comprises some sims and chapels displaying elegant carvings and elaborate decorations. In the Wat Xieng Thong, once happened the crown ceremony of the king; and carry on being the venue for crucial festivals.
In the afternoon, you will embark a local boat and sail to sacred Pak Ou Cave on the limestone cliffs and faces to the meet of Ou River and Mekong River. Hiking up to the caves, you will find the shrines with displays of thousands Buddha statues of different sizes and status like meditating, standing, achieving the nirvana and so on. Then, you will go downstream back to Luang Prabang town and enjoy the sunset on the boat. Balance of the day will be on your own account to spend time at Luang Prabang night market and try Laos food or relax at hotel.
Early in the morning, you will get to a local pagoda or temple to observe the religious Alms Giving Ceremony. After the chanting ends, monks and nuns in saffron robes will walk in line around streets of Luang Prabang to collect the offerings from local people. The devotees sit on the pavement waiting for the show up of each group of monks from different temples and pagodas to offer them food believing this will help them accumulate their karmas. Then, you will have a hike roughly 300 steps to the Phousi Mount right in the Luang Prabang town center to enjoy the panoramic view of Luang Prabang ground and the rivers. After a short stroll around local morning market in Luang Prabang, you will return your hotel, have breakfast and relax.
In the afternoon, you will drive around 40 minutes from Luang Prabang to Khuang Si Waterfalls. This is a fantasy area of terraced crystal pools nestling in the lush jungle. Keep walking up and down in around total 2 hours, you can contemplate different layers of the waterfalls and enjoy some swimming upon interested.
At leisure on your own till good time, you will meet up with your local tour guide and take private transfer from Luang Prabang to airport and fly to next destination.
