Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham
A package cycling from Phnom Penh Capital up north passing tranquil rural provices of Cambodia including Kompong Cham, Kompong Thom, Beng Mealea. Instead of flying from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, the active can choose to go with bicycle and traverse byway in 5 days and gain an insight on each region. Embarking on this journey, you will have unique experiences of Cambodia like cycling to the Silk Island of Phnom Penh, visit Skun Spider market in Kompong Cham, hike up to the hilltop pagoda Wat Hanchey since 7th century AD, cycling via verdant jungle and explore the Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological site, explore and admire the sunset at Angkor isolated temple Beng Mealea and so on. Though the accommodations in countryside are not fancy as city, you will stay in fully equipped properties, and have one night experiences homestay in Beng Mealea.
This morning, meet up with your tour guide and get ready for the cycling journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. First, you will travel the Diamond Island for a ferry crossing Mekong river toward the east side. From there, visit local house doing the weaving work. The host will introduce to you on the produce of their famous Krama scarves. Then, you will reach the starting point of this cycling tour. Setting off by cycling along Mekong River to admire the beautiful local villages and observe villages’ daily life. There is then one more river cross after lunch. You then, will carry on pedaling toward Kompong Cham. En route, you can call in at Skun Spider Market where selling the deep-fried tarantulas.
Cycling distance 57km (4 hours)
This morning, cycle to Wat Hanchey ancient hilltop pagoda since 7th or 8th century AD and overlooking to Mekong River. Cycling to peak (another choice is hiking of 300 stairs), you can marvel the panoramic views toward stunning landscape. This region is renown for their cassava and exotic fruit plantations, and serene countryside. Carry on the cycling till lunch. After lunch, your driver will transfer you around 20km to Stung Chinit Tourism Site where situated an artificial lake, a nice place to refresh and enjoy a local beer at the bar. Then, get to your hotel for check-in and retire.
Cycling distance: 60km – 4 hours
Cycle to famous Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological site which has been recently nominated as UNESCO World Heritage site. The site premise covers a huge area of 25 square kilometers, including a walled city center, numerous temples from the 6th to 9th centuries, ten of which are octagonal, unique exemplars of their type in South-East Asia. Possible to stop en route to pay visits to local villages, taste snacks and fruits at local stores, having lunch at local restaurant. At the site, you not only cycle through the wild and verdant jungles, but also explore some of the temples slowly being engulfed by the encroaching jungle.
Cycling distance: 60km – 4 hours
Today cycling destinations are Kompoing Kdei and Beng Mealea. Arriving at Kompong Kdei, you will visit ancient bridge Spean Praptos or Kompong Kdei Bridge. This ancient bridge is one the few Khmer Empire era bridges to have survived to the modern day and it used to connect the city of Angkor to Phnom Chisor Temple.
Next, enjoy the pleasant countryside landscape on the way to Beng Mealea Temple which means Lotus Pond, a 12th century AD temple built during the Angkor Wat era. This is one of the most impressive temples which is embraced by the jungle.
After lunch at local restaurant, explore the outskirts with some hidden secondary temple. Then arrive at Beng Mealea right at sunset. You will spend tonight at homestay with local family.
Cycling distance: 67km – 5 hours
Your authentic local breakfast is prepared by the host today. Relax for a while, you’ll cycle toward Siem Reap via tranquil trails with lines of palm trees, endless rice fields and charming rural community surround. Stop at Traov Kot lake and have a break. Local people spend their free time fishing and chilling at this lake’s premise. Afterward, carry on your journey to Siem Reap, the final destination.
