Why Si Phan Don ?
Si Phan Don, the southernmost point of Laos which means “the region of four thousand islands” is a must for the trip to the south of Laos. In addition to the greenish landscapes and rural villages, Si Phan Don is attractive with its stunning natural rivers over a thousand islands, and picturesque waterfalls. The two main islands for accommodation, sightseeing, and exploring are Don Khone and Don Khong. Another more visited area is Don Det Island where there are more choices for lodgings. The main thing to do in Si Phan Don is board a local boat and sail over the vast Mekong River to admire the breathtaking nature of the 4,000 island area, as well as spot the sweet water dolphin and see these mammals playing. Besides island hopping tours, the visitors can take a cycling journey to explore the smaller islands visit the rural villages, and get to know the insight of local life and their cultures.
