Lying halfway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang in the heart of Central Vietnam is the country’s third largest city by population and also the most livable one, according to global mobility specialist ECA International.
As a great representative of Vietnam’s remarkable boom in recent years, this city is brimmed with modern apartments, amusing themed parks and luxurious resorts, but you can still find many stunning natural landscapes here. In other words, it’s an ideal destination for those who like to mix primitiveness with convenience, tradition with innovation.
Da Nang Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate, which is characterized by two distinct seasons: the dry season that runs from January to July, and the rainy season that runs from August to December. Its temperatures are quite high (above 20°C) all year round and rarely change much, with an average annual temperature of about 25°C.
Despite being a coastal city, Da Nang isn’t heavily affected by seastorms like some other places in the region and can be visited at any time of the year. Despite the fact, the best period for a trip to Da Nang is from April to August, when the weather is dry, sunny, and perfect for outdoor activities. This is also the peak of tourism season with a variety of enthralling festivals to take part in, most notably the International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) – which is considered the most appealing event of the city.
Being the third busiest airport in the country, Da Nang International Airport welcomes a large number of tourists coming every month. Besides domestic flights from other popular destinations in Vietnam like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, it also has direct connections to many Asian hot spots like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo. Since this airport is not far away from the city center, a taxi transfer from there only takes 10 – 15 minutes and costs a few bucks.
Da Nang Train Station is also close to the city center and can be reached from any other destination in Vietnam. Thanks to the breathtaking beauty of Hai Van Pass, the Hue – Da Nang railway route is always listed among Vietnam’s top scenic train journeys and definitely worth experiencing, especially if Hue happens to be on your itinerary too. This train ride often lasts 2.5 – 3 hours and costs $3 – 8 per person.
Catching a bus to Da Nang is also simple and convenient if you are looking for a cost-effective method to get to this city. In addition to regular buses from nearby locations like Hue and Hoi An, bus companies also offer direct sleeper buses departing from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for $15 – 20, with a moving time of 16 – 20 hours.
Renowned in Vietnam as the city of bridges, Da Nang features a few impressively designed bridges that cross the lovely Han River and adorn the city’s splendor. The most famous among them is Dragon Bridge, a unique structure that looks like a golden dragon and is widely recognized as the symbol of the whole city.
Constructed from 2009 – 2013, this 666-meter-long bridge contains 6 traffic lanes and provides the shortest road link from the airport to the city center. In addition to the majestic appearances, it also attracts tourists with a spectacular night show at 9 pm each Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, in which the dragon’s head breathes fire and water continuously for 15 minutes straight.
