Embark on Cambodia travel 11-day itinerary to venture the appealing destinations in southern Cambodia. You will explore the best things to do in Phnom Penh colonial capital. Then, traverse to the south-east for the unique parts of Cambodia with sleepy and peaceful coastal rural towns and marvelously pristine beaches. Kep town is pretty close to border with southern Vietnam; and renown with colonial resorts, Rabbit Island, fresh seafood and farming plantations. Kampot shares similar characteristic with Kep of climate, countryside scene. Kampot Cambodia's impressive attractions includes the Bokor National Park, Salt fields and the pepper plantation. Phnom Penh is the capital and the largest city of Cambodia. This city is located in the flat land near the conjunction of Mekong River and Tonle Lap Lake. Phnom Penh is charmingly featured by the modernity of the capital, colonial touches as well as Angkorian architectures.
Upon arrival at Phnom Penh airport, you will see your local guide and then travel to city center for hotel check-in.
On this day, you will explore the best things to do in Phnom Penh to gain the glimpse on Cambodia’s history and culture. Visit the Royal Palace which was built in 1866, you will see a huge collection of treasures, gold Buddha of 90 kilos and the emerald Buddha since 17th century. This museum, built in 1917, is a wonderful place dedicated to Khmer art.
Hike uphill to Wat Phnom the highest peak in Phnom Penh at 27m height, you then will find the ancient pagoda on the peak and casting the overview of the capital city. Carry on with sobering Toul Sleng or the S21 which used to be a secondary school but then turned into the prison by Khmer Rouge.
You will have a cycling day in Phnom Penh today and target destination is Koh Dach Silk island. Your driver will take you to Diamond Island where you can across Mekong River and begin cycling from the pier to pass the rural villages with some stops to visit local houses. The path then leads you to Koh Oknha Tei, a peaceful island with narrow countryside paths and farming villages. It’s possible to stop time to time and visit Buddhist pagodas. Keep cycling and cross the bridge, you will reach Koh Dach Island. Have lunch at local restaurant on the island and have a break. Thereupon, carry on the cycling trip on the island and visit a local weaving house from where learn about steps of making traditional weaving products in Cambodia as well as the country’s Krama craft.
This late evening, you will travel by tuk tuk with your tour guide to embark on food tour sampling local dishes of Phnom Penh as well as Cambodia.
Farewell to the vibrant city Phnom Penh, you will head down south to Kep town the next spot in your trip in southern Cambodia 11 days. This seaside town was themost popular during 50s and 60s. Kep Cambodia was the prefered retreat destination for French elite in 1908s. However, when the wars ended, this town became idling and ruin. These days, Kep is attractive by its sleepy countryside and abundance of seafood, especially the crab.
On the way to Kep, you can stop and have a hike up to Phnom Chisor Temple built in 11th century offering fascinating view over the scenic countryside. Upon arrival, check-in the hotel and relax till rest of the day.
In the morning, you will board a local boat to Rabbit Island, or Koh Tonsay with rustic beaches for unwinding. After spending time chilling out or swimming on this island, you will return to Kep town.
In the afternoon, you will explore the culture and history of Southern Cambodia. Visit the cave temple Chhnork which shelters a small brick temple since 7th century which before the Angkorian period. Inside the cave, you also find stunning stalactites and stalagmites.
After breakfast, leave Kep to Kampot. You will pay a visit to the pepper plantation in Kampot to learn techniques that they use to grow and harvest pepper. Have a walk with the host, see the pepper processing like shrubs, drying pepper and sample some. Possible to buy some local pepper as gift to bring back home. The land route from Kep to Kampot passes by coconut and palm fields. Stop en route and enjoy the rural scenes, the farming fields and salt field. Late afternoon, enjoy a sunset cruise in Kampot offering pleasant landscape of the idyllic river and countryside.
Today, you will delve into the Bokor National Park one of attractive southern Cambodia attractions and discover the rugged mountains, French colonial buildings, Popokvil waterfalls and verdant forest. Bokor National Park covers the area of 1,500 sqr km rainforest and grasslands also home to plenty of wild animals and bird species. From the peak, you also can see the Gulf of Thailand. Return to your hotel then and have free time till rest of the day.
Depart from Kampot this morning, you will travel to Sihanoukville in over 3-hour drive. Upon your arrival, aboard a boat transfer from pier to your resort on pristine island the last destination in your Cambodia tour and beach holiday of 11 days. Rest of the day will be free on your own.
After breakfast, have free and leisure time to enjoy the beach or chilling out at the property.
At good time, the boat will transfer you back to the pier in Sihanoukville and have transfer (without tour guide) to Sihanoukville Airport for your flight to next destination.
