Welcome to Pakse, the gateway to placid southern Laos and the capital of Champasak Province. You will be greeted by your local driver and tour guide, and begin your Laos tour package with an exploration of Pakse's neighbours. Travel to Vat Luang Temple, the biggest and main temple in Pakse, situated on the bank of the Sedone River and facing the main bridge. Then, you will reach the Ban Don Khor stone carving village, where the traditional craftsmanship has remained for several decades. Strolling around the village, you will have a chance to observe the processes of making traditional crafts, and then visit the giant Buddha statue at Vat Chomphet. Next, stop at a rice noodle factory, where you will learn about the traditional process of making rice noodles. Lastly, hike up to the Phou Salao hill peak to admire Pakse town and the Mekong River from above. Afterwards, travel to the Bolaven Plateau for check-in at the Sinouk Coffee Resort at an elevation of 1000m.
Start your energetic day by venturing to the thrilling Bolaven Plateau, riding bumpy dirt roads and passing local villages and settlements on the way to Ban Lao Ngam. Next, you will visit the Tad Lo Waterfall. On the way down, you can indulge yourself with a coffee break at the coffee plantation. Then head to Champasak for an overnight.
This morning, you will head to Vat Phou, a pre-Angkorian temple dating back to the 10th century that was originally Hindu and later became a Buddhist monastery. Located on the west bank of the Mekong River, Vat Phou was built on seven terraces with an axis and was listed as a UNESCO Heritage site. The electric car will take you to the base of Mount Phou Kao, past two lakes, from where you can walk to the ancient axis to explore the sculptures, terraces, and temples, then to a natural spring and stone animal carvings.
This afternoon, you will travel to Ban Kiet Ngong and immerse yourself in the region’s wetland at the foot of Phou Asa, which extends 700 hectares between Ban Phapho and Ban Kiet Ngong. Take a short stroll through the village to reach the wetlands, then ride the traditional canoe, a single wooden boat used for fishing. The ride reveals wonderful landscapes of aquatic vegetation and wildlife. Stop by Donlay Island, you will hike for around 1 hour to the Xepian Natural Protected Area. Afterward, return to the shore, then head to your hotel in Champasak.
In the morning, embark on the motor boat for a 15-minute ride to the little island Don Daeng. Hop on your bicycle and ride into the gorgeous countryside of Don Daeng Island. The place lies peacefully at the downstream of the Mekong River, featuring winding paths, tropical landscapes mixed with dense jungle, and the rural villages of the fishing community.
Thereupon, depart to Khone Island, where you can proceed with the sightseeing of Siphandone with the renowned 4,000 islands.
